Show Notes

Your team has been told it owns its work. In this episode we look at how that word gets quietly hollowed out — until ownership means carrying the blame for outcomes the team was never allowed to control.

We separate the two halves of real ownership: responsibility for the outcome, and the authority to shape it. We look at why developers detach when they can’t influence what they’re accountable for, and why managers often pass down the responsibility because the authority is stuck above them too.

And we offer a simple test — watch what happens when the team says no, and what the incident review actually asks. One version is a team that’s learning. The other is a team that’s just surviving.
